Otto Hupp's fabulous drawing and printing technique
The color tones in Otto Hupp's works are not obtained in the way of the contemporary printing techniques, where 3 standard colors and black are printed over each other in a fixed grid pattern, but by means of pure colors.
So, for example, green is not obtained by a mix of blue and yellow spots but by a green ink and grey is not a swarm of black dots at a distance from each other but a full grey ink.
This results in fresh and vivid colors, as shown in the example below.
Moreover, Hupp did not use the modern CMYK colours but specific types of blue, red, green and yellow that contribute to the recognisability of his work.
The shades and shadows are made by drawn dots or lines and sometimes colors are lighted up by scratches.
Most of the following ex libris are printed in at leats 4 colours. That means that as many blocks have to be drawn and as many printing passes have to be done.
Also his perfect mastery of calligraphy catches the eye in the texts.
